Display Screen Equipment (DSE) Assessments

Ergonomics is about fitting the environment to the person, not the person to the environment. Assessment of employee workstations and work equipment is part of this Ergonomic requirement for your organisation.

The Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations 2007, Chapter 5 of Part 2, outlines Display Screen Equipment (DSE), otherwise known as Visual Display Units (VDU's), regulations.

Any individual who utilises VDU's for continuous periods of 1 hour or more or who generally uses VDU's for their work task, is a VDU user and will require assessment to ensure correct set up.

It is the duty of Employers, as per the regulations, to:

  • Carry out an analysis or risk assessment of employee's workstations,

  • Provide information to employees about measures to be implemented following the assessment,

  • Provide training to employees in the set up and use of work stations and equipment, prior to work commencing,

  • Undertake or arrange for a further analysis when an employee moves to a new work station, when new equipment is introduced or changed, when new equipment or technology is introduced affecting work stations, or when an employee requests an initial or repeat assessment,

  • Ensure that every employee is provided with access to an appropriate eyesight test prior to and during employment.

Health and Wellbeing in the workplace is not just about being legally compliant, but also about ensuring your staff are comfortable and well whilst undertaking their work duties and responsibilities, and not being put at risk of discomfort or poor health.

At HSES Consultants, our staff are competent and trained DSE assessors who can come to your workplace and undertake DSE assessments, even if you only have need for one assessment. We also offer online assessments for your home workers, or we can attend your employees home if a more comprehensive assessment is required.

Get in touch today to discuss your needs and arrange for us to attend your workplace. We serve Foynes, County Limerick and Ireland.
